Cracks are one of the common diseases on road surfaces. If not treated in a timely manner after the formation of cracks, rainwater will enter the surface layer and base layer through the cracks. Under the action of driving loads, dynamic water will form and cause erosion on the structural layer, resulting in water damage such as slurry pumping or loose base layer, ultimately leading to cracks, potholes, and other diseases on the road surface.
Grouting is one of the commonly used methods for treating cracks. Grouting is an effective preventive maintenance measure, with the purpose of waterproofing.
Filling joints can extend the service life of asphalt pavement, and the construction cost is relatively low, only 1/6 of the cost of repairing the pavement. Therefore, road joint filling machines have been widely used.
Spring is the golden season for joint grouting construction, which reduces the impact of thermal expansion and contraction on road cracks. At the same time, the temperature change is small, and the mild climate has little impact on the high-temperature stability of the grouting material.
There are also special requirements for the materials required for joint filling. The joint sealant should have strong adhesion to the joint wall, not stick to the wheel at high temperatures, and not brittle at low temperatures, with good durability.
The process flow of joint filling is as follows:

According to the crack marking, adjust the slot width and depth of the slot machine, align it with the centerline of the crack, and cut a uniform U-shaped groove n. The depth to width ratio of the slot should not exceed 2:1, and the slot should be at least 1 cm wide and 1.2 cm deep.

When cleaning cracks, compressed air method and wire brush method are often used to ensure the firm adhesion between the sealant and the joint wall.
When filling the joint, in order to prevent the wheel from sticking the joint sealant, sometimes sand is also sprinkled on it after pouring the joint sealant.
After filling the cracks, cool down for 10-20 minutes according to the temperature and open up traffic.
Cautions for joint filling:
1、 Construction temperature: Construction temperature is one of the reasons for sealant detachment. Wet road surfaces and temperatures below 4 ℃ can reduce the adhesive strength of the sealant, making it easy to peel off.
The overall temperature of the road surface is relatively low. After the sealant is poured into the joint, the temperature drops quickly, and the sealant shrinks significantly. The temperature stress between the sealant and the groove wall is relatively high, which will reduce the bonding force between the sealant and the road surface.
2、 Crack humidity: When filling cracks, the road surface should be dry. If it is damp, it will reduce the bonding force between the sealant and the road surface, causing some of the sealant to fall off.
3、 Maintain cleanliness: Before filling the crack, use an air compressor to clean the dust, debris, and loose objects around the crack after the slot has been opened, and maintain the cleanliness of the crack.
4、 Crack filling range: Severe rutting, especially on road surfaces that form mesh cracks, should not be treated with this method.
